Every time I go to this one plant to pump they use a supplier I have a hard time pumping because of all the rock. Yesterday we had 550' of 2.5" hose out. I convinced the contractor to use a better supplier. The job was a overlay on a tunnel floor that was 8' wide and 500 feet long. The hose went up about 5' then over and down to the bottom of the tunnel. 50' to that point then 500 feet to the end. Concrete came and we started pumping, 5" slump at the pump. The mud made it all the way to the last section and then we plugged. We found the plug and hit it with a sledge, pure rock came out and then good mud. Guess I had a touch too much water in the prime. As we poured we came backwards so we pumped 25' and broke a section off. Not knowing how it was going to go the contractor figured 3 days in his bid. We completed the whole job in 6.5 hours, pumped, placed and finished. Everyone was happy SO I had to point out the difference in concrete quality and what can be accomplished with good pumpable concrete.

Nothing is more expensive than cheap concrete that won't pump.

And good (no, GREAT) quality concrete that pumps well, finishes well, sets up well, cures well and all- around performs well, is PRICELESS!! Why do some people think nothing of paying $35.00/gallon for a certain paint, when another brand is $22.00? And then balk at paying $13.00/yd more for a better quality concrete? Paint is temporary, and concrete is supposed to be next to permanant.... Go figger......

It's constant fight around here also, and they still go back to the clown show for $5,00 a yard difference, must be the secretary I can't figure how people get through life sometimes.

JUST LIKE ON SOME RESIDENTIAL LINE JOB THEY ORDER 5INCH LINE TO SAVE A COUPLE OF BUCKS INSTEAD OG USING 2 OR 3 INCH LINE MIXES. BUT THEY END UP PAYING MORE IN THE LONG RUN CAUSE OF THE LAVOR FACTOR...GO FIGURE THAT!
